Senior IoT Firmware Engineer

Cantaloupe is seeking a senior firmware engineer to help us populate the internet of things by making devices that connect to currently isolated machines. You’ll be defining the firmware architecture and be writing the firmware that will connect remote machines/assets to the cloud and ultimately to their owners. We also do payments and you’ll be writing the code that ensures we process credit card transactions securely.

Role Overview:
This position requires expertise in a breadth of firmware technologies from ‘bare metal’ programming to fully implemented real time OS environments. The successful candidate must have experience doing application level design, contributing to hardware system definition and must have a broad experience in the embedded systems technology space. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will be a member of the M2M (machine to machine) development team. This is a small team where the results of your initiative and creativity will be visible.

Description of Duties:

  • Develop firmware for devices that interface to otherwise isolated machines, like vending machines, pool filtration systems or arcade games, to connect those machines to the internet
  • Develop firmware for taking credit card payment data, encrypting it and transmitting it to processors for purchase authorization
  • Provide leadership in guiding the firmware architecture to align with our future device plans

Required Skills:

  • Experience in a technical leadership role
  • 5+ years experience in embedded firmware design and development
  • Lightweight OS experience (Free/Open RTOS, Rtxc, Cmx, Micrium, Usmartx, uC/OS, zwos)
  • 4+ years experience in C
  • Experience doing hands-on board bringup
  • Ability to read and understand schematics
  • Experience working with protocols such as Bluetooth, USB, I2C, SPI, and RS232
  • Experience creating devices that run on battery power only
  • Technical breadth in the embedded firmware space, experience working across the many aspects of an embedded system; protocols, drivers, code optimization, debug etc.
  • Fluent in software fundamentals including software design, algorithm development, data structures, code modularity and maintainability
  • Ability to use troubleshooting tools such as Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers and Multimeters

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science
  • Double major in EE/CS desirable

Specific Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Gain an understanding of the marketplace to develop and manage our unique and different value propositions.
  • Develop product positioning and messaging that differentiates our products in the market.
  • Together, with the product team, educate both internal and external stakeholders about our product features and their benefits.
  • Create product content (e.g. sales enablement documentation, case studies, product videos, website copy, blog posts) to articulate the benefits of our products to the world.

Role Overview:

Cantaloupe’s Regional Sales Directors (RSDs) are expected to identify, uncover and develop new opportunities by building relationships with medium and large size Vending, Micro Market and OCS operators within their respective territory. RSD’s partner with current and, most importantly, prospective customers to learn their business, assess their critical business needs and effectively communicate Cantaloupe’s Value Proposition. The role requires the ability to develop and explain a business solution using a return on investment (ROI) approach including the ability to articulate with the client their business strategy, change management and key levers for P&L impact.

Since Cantaloupe is a team-oriented, fast-paced, customer satisfaction, business environment, the RSD needs to be a self-starter, intelligent, highly goal-oriented and driven to succeed. This includes excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to develop long-term client relations and effectively close opportunities. Must have the ability to develop client presentations, proposals and negotiate contracts. Good qualification skills are essential.

Experience in selling face-to-face to medium and large sized independently owned businesses that are highly entrepreneurial in nature is important. Prior experience with technology-based solutions (hardware, Software-as-a-Service, consulting services) is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, prospect, uncover and develop new opportunities from medium and large size Vending, OCS & Micro-market operators in the Northeast United States
  • Setup Face-to-Face meetings with prospective clients to perform operational assessment and map needs to Cantaloupe’s award winning products and services
  • Drive product demos, client presentations, financial investment ROI analysis, and contracting process through sales cycle
  • Manage several deals in different stages of opportunity pipeline for the territory.
  • Provide input, coordination, and support for Cantaloupe’s Marketing programs.

Specific Skills:

We are looking for a motivated individual with experience in selling to small, independently-owned businesses that are highly entrepreneurial in nature is important. Prior experience in the Vending or Refreshments industry is a plus, but not required.

Candidates must have a proven track record of success with cold calling, emailing and leveraging social media to generate and qualify leads. SDR must be a self-starter, intelligent, highly goal-oriented and driven to succeed.
