Cantaloupe Systems Announces OpenVDI™, an Affordable Wireless Bridge Between DEX Data and Vending Management Systems That Lowers Costs & Increases Accuracy OpenVDI Sends DEX Data to VMSs Wirelessly & Remotely, Enabling Vending Operators to Benefit From Real-Time Information About Their Business With No Machine Visits Required
August 29, 2011 SAN FRANCISCO ─Cantaloupe Systems today announced the availability of OpenVDI: the lowest-cost, wireless way to get real-time DEX data into a Vending Management System (VMS). OpenVDI is priced at $5 per month, and as low as $99 for each cashless-ready telemetry device. OpenVDI is the most affordable telemetry solution available from any supplier. The device is less than half the cost of competing solutions, and uses the same industry-proven Seed devices deployed in over 70,000 vending machines worldwide. OpenVDI is designed for vending operators who are looking for the most cost effective way to get real-time DEX data into their VMS in order to improve inventory and pre-kitting accuracy. All devices are cashless-ready and are compatible with Cantaloupe Systems' cloud-based Seed product, which provides Accurate Pre-kits, Dynamic Scheduling, Real-Time Alerts, Cash Accountability, and more to optimize a vending business without having to buy servers, maintain IT systems, or install software. A champion of standards in vending, Cantaloupe Systems partnered with other vending industry leaders to define the NAMA Vending Data Interchange (VDI) standard that OpenVDI uses to communicate with vendor management systems. "OpenVDI gives operators a low-cost way to feed remote real-time DEX data into a VDI-compliant VMS," said Justin Grant, director of product management of Cantaloupe Systems. "DEX was a crucial first step in industry standards. Now OpenVDI provides an affordable next step by removing the need to visit machines in order to transfer DEX data to a VMS. The ultimate goal is for the industry to adopt standards-supported business intelligence and analytics, like other retail industries have done."
